Contact UsWhat Is A Brow Lift?
Brow lift surgery, sometimes referred to as browplasty or a forehead lift, is a popular aesthetic treatment used to refresh the upper portion of the face by creating the appearance of a higher brow. A droopy brow can oftentimes create an angry or tired appearance. A brow lift surgically corrects a drooping brow to give you a rejuvenated face by removing excess skin while lifting the eyebrows. Led by Dr. Sean McNally, our practices have helped men and women attain a more youthful look with brow lift procedures. Injectable wrinkle relaxers and fillers are commonly used along with brow lift surgery at The Oregon Clinic and Réviance in Portland, OR for optimal results, creating a smoother, softer look.

Who Is A Candidate for A Brow Lift?
When looking at yourself in a mirror, do you appear angry or tired, or see deep wrinkles between your brows? There are several factors to consider when determining if someone is a good candidate for a brow lift. Generally, individuals who are in good health and have realistic expectations about their results are ideal candidates. During a consultation at The Oregon Clinic or Réviance, Dr. McNally will assess your medical history and facial anatomy to determine if a brow lift is the right way to move forward. Our team will also discuss your concerns and goals to create a custom treatment plan.
How Is A Brow Lift Performed?
Anesthesia will be given before the procedure. This may be done through general anesthesia or IV sedation, depending on the extent of the surgery. The incision technique performed in a browplasty is determined by the degree of skin sag, if the forehead is affected, and the position of the hairline. Some of the different techniques Dr. McNally specializes in are:
- Traditional Incision
Also called the open browplasty incision, this surgery involves an incision placed at the top of the head behind the hairline. The open incision not only hides scars but also allows a certain amount of lift control during the procedure. The traditional incision works well for those with both frown lines and a sagging brow. This is the ideal technique for patients who are concerned about a receding hairline. - Trichophytic Incision
The trichophytic incision is placed right against the hairline. It allows significant lift in the brow for women and men who have a low risk for hairline recession. - Lateral Brow Lift
Also called a temporal browplasty, the lateral technique starts the incision inside the hairline slightly above the temples. The lateral incision permits the outer areas of the brow to be lifted and is best for sagging that is present in the outer brows. It also helps to smooth Crow's feet. - Endoscopic Forehead Lift
The endoscopic lift is a more modern method used in browplasty surgery. It makes multiple tiny incisions in the hairline and inserts the endoscope, which is pushed to the eyebrow to release its attached tools. Through the camera of the endoscope, the brow tissue is suspended with stitches to lift the brow to a higher position.

What Should I Expect after A Brow Lift?
The recovery period following brow lift surgery can vary, with the most swelling and discomfort reported with the traditional approach versus the endoscopic or temporal approaches. Patients generally feel some swelling and bruising in the upper face near the eyebrows and possibly near the eyes. Cold compresses can help to reduce the inflammation. Dr. McNally recommends patients sleep with pillows propped under their head for at least three nights following surgery. It is critical to avoid any activities or movements that can put stress on your face. The average recovery period from this procedure is about 2 – 3 weeks. Results can often be seen immediately, with a rejuvenated appearance that looks softer, more alert, and a visible improvement in sagging skin and fine lines in the upper portion of the face.
The Oregon Clinic Reviews
A real professional. I felt so comfortable when meeting with Dr. McNally and he answered all of my questions with ease. 10/10 experience.
I have wanted/needed a breast reduction for most of my life. I had insecurities about my body but more importantly I experienced chronic back pain. I tried everything before reaching out to Dr. McNally for his opinion. Sean McNally has such a kind yet comical nature; he made me feel heard, reassured and so at ease through everything.. You can tell this comes as a second nature to him. I am still in disbelief with how easy the process was leading up to my surgery and how amazing his team has been throughout my recovery. My new breasts look absolutely beautiful and have already made me feel more comfortable and confident than ever before.

About UsBrow Lift FAQs
Do I need a brow lift or facelift?
Whether you should get a brow lift or full facelift will depend on your goals and where you have excess skin. You should candidly talk about your wants with Dr. McNally so he can help you choose what is best. Many patients come in wanting a facelift may find they only need a brow lift and vice versa. Using his experience, Dr. McNally can confidently help you decide on your treatment plan so you get the results you want.
What about nonsurgical treatments?
You may consider one of the many nonsurgical treatments, including laser skin tightening and injectables (like JUVÉDERM® and BOTOX®), that can give some improvements. However, a surgical brow lift is better for significant improvements and longer-lasting results. In your consultation, Dr. McNally can go over both your surgical and nonsurgical options to help you decide which is better for your needs.
What technique should I choose?
Dr. McNally will go over brow lift techniques in your consultation to help you know the benefits of each. He will then help you decide on the technique that best meets your needs and goals. Some of the factors that may influence your choice are your hairline (taking into account both your current hairline as well as your risk of developing a receding hairline), the degree of skin sagging, and how much time you can devote to recovery.
