Brow lift surgery, sometimes referred to as browplasty or a forehead lift, is a popular aesthetic treatment used to refresh the upper portion of the face by creating the appearance of a higher brow. A droopy brow can oftentimes create an angry or tired appearance. A brow lift surgically corrects a drooping brow to give you a rejuvenated face by removing excess skin while lifting the eyebrows. Led by Dr. Sean McNally, our practice has helped men and women attain a more youthful look with brow lift procedures. Injectable wrinkle relaxers and fillers are commonly used along with brow lift surgery at The Oregon Clinic in Portland, OR for optimal results, creating a smoother, softer look.

Anesthesia will be given before the procedure. This may be done through general anesthesia or IV sedation, depending on the extent of the surgery. The incision technique performed in a browplasty is determined by the degree of skin sag, if the forehead is affected, and the position of the hairline. Some of the different techniques Dr. McNally specializes in are:

  • Traditional Incision
Also called the open browplasty incision, this surgery involves an incision placed at the top of the head behind the hairline. The open incision not only hides scars but also allows a certain amount of lift control during the procedure. The traditional incision works well for those with both frown lines and a sagging brow. This is the ideal technique for patients who are concerned about a receding hairline.
  • Trichophytic Incision
The trichophytic incision is placed right against the hairline. It allows significant lift in the brow for women and men who have a low risk for hairline recession.
  • Lateral Brow Lift
Also called a temporal browplasty, the lateral technique starts the incision inside the hairline slightly above the temples. The lateral incision permits the outer areas of the brow to be lifted and is best for sagging that is present in the outer brows. It also helps to smooth Crow's feet.
  • Endoscopic Forehead Lift
The endoscopic lift is a more modern method used in browplasty surgery. It makes multiple tiny incisions in the hairline and inserts the endoscope, which is pushed to the eyebrow to release its attached tools. Through the camera of the endoscope, the brow tissue is suspended with stitches to lift the brow to a higher position.

Dr. McNally did a scar revision for breast cancer surgery that I had over five years ago and I am so pleased! I wish I had done it sooner. I am blown away by his skill (I look as good as new)! My experience was perfect from start to finish. Five stars!!

I chose Dr. McNally after diligent research and interviewing multiple surgeons to perform several procedures including abdominoplasty and liposuction. Ultimately, I chose Dr. McNally for his bedside manner, credentials, professionalism, confidence and skill. It’s difficult to find a plastic surgeon who is skilled at multiple procedures that are cosmetic and medically necessary, who go to bat for their patients with insurance companies…That speaks to Dr. McNally’s true character. Dr. McNally takes time answer any questions and really listens. He has greatly exceeded any expectations for pre op/post op care and results on my body contour. I’m still in shock with how my body looks and feels and look forward to enjoying living in comfort with style. Major surgery can be a scary process, but every step of the way, I felt cared for and comfortable knowing that Dr. McNally would deliver the best results with the latest technology and skill. If you’re looking for a surgeon with empathy, confidence and ability to deliver results, look no further. Thank you, Dr. McNally! ~M

Dr. McNally changed my whole life for the better! I cannot say enough great things about him. From the very first appointment I had with him I felt completely comfortable and knew I made the right choice having him be my surgeon. He actively listened to any concerns I had and informed me on what to expect pre and post surgery. The procedure with him went smoothly with no complications. He put my mind at ease during my healing process and my incision lines are practically invisible! So thank you Dr. McNally!!! You have no idea the impact you made on my life! Highly highly recommend! I just explanted with Dr. McNally. I really wanted to have an en bloc capsulectomy done and it was really important to me to have the right surgeon to do this. Although Dr. McNally could not guarantee he could do this and would only do this if this did not put me at risk, which I greatly appreciated that he was successful in doing the en bloc capsulectomy along with a lift. I am extremely happy with the results and I highly recommend Dr. McNally. He is very skilled and caring.

About Us
Do I need a brow lift or facelift?

Whether you should get a brow lift or full facelift will depend on your goals and where you have excess skin. You should candidly talk about your wants with Dr. McNally so he can help you choose what is best. Many patients come in wanting a facelift may find they only need a brow lift and vice versa. Using his experience, Dr. McNally can confidently help you decide on your treatment plan so you get the results you want.

What about nonsurgical treatments?

You may consider one of the many nonsurgical treatments, including laser skin tightening and injectables (like JUVÉDERM® and BOTOX®), that can give some improvements. However, a surgical brow lift is better for significant improvements and longer-lasting results. In your consultation, Dr. McNally can go over both your surgical and nonsurgical options to help you decide which is better for your needs.

What technique should I choose?

Dr. McNally will go over brow lift techniques in your consultation to help you know the benefits of each. He will then help you decide on the technique that best meets your needs and goals. Some of the factors that may influence your choice are your hairline (taking into account both your current hairline as well as your risk of developing a receding hairline), the degree of skin sagging, and how much time you can devote to recovery.
