What Is Blepharoplasty?
A person's eyes are often the most striking and memorable part of their look, but an excess of skin can hide even the most beautiful eyes, creating a tired and unflattering appearance. Dr. Sean McNally at The Oregon Clinic uses eyelid surgery (known as blepharoplasty) to reduce excess skin and rejuvenate the lower or upper eyelid, creating a softer look. Countless men and women receive eyelid surgery at The Oregon Clinic to reduce puffy bulges, leading to improved function and appearance. Whether upper or lower, eyelid surgery creates a more awakened appearance and can give you subtle yet noticeable improvements. Contact our office to schedule a consultation with Dr. McNally if you want to learn more about refreshing your eyes with eyelid lift surgery in Portland, OR.
What Are Some Benefits of a Blepharoplasty?
A personalized blepharoplasty in Portland, OR at The Oregon Clinic gives both practical and cosmetic enhancements to your face, with great benefits like:
- Extending vision by improving line of vision
- Producing a more awake, alert expression
- Resulting in a younger, rejuvenated look
- Minimizing sagging and/or drooping in the lower and upper eyelids
- Reducing bulging in the bottom lids
- Improving the contour and appearance of the eyes
- Decreasing discomfort by eliminating rubbing of skin folds
What Should I Expect for A Blepharoplasty?
At The Oregon Clinic, we can offer general anesthesia or IV sedation for your procedure, depending on the type of eyelid surgery being performed and the complexity of the treatment. Blepharoplasty can be carried out on the top eyelid, the bottom, or a combination of both.
Upper blepharoplasty assists in diminishing the loose skin that droops over the eye to create a more flattering look. The incision point is often placed along the lash line or crease to trim away skin and tissue.
Lower eyelid surgery is performed to reduce puffy and bulging skin beneath the lower eyelid. In most cases, an incision is placed just under the lash line to allow access to remove fatty tissue, and the skin is gently lifted to create a softer, flatter look. Sometimes, a nonsurgical laser treatment may be applied to help with discoloration while injectable fillers can be used for more volume and smoothness if desired.
Dr. McNally commonly carries out blepharoplasty to help patients see better while highlighting the natural beauty of their eyes. Contact our cosmetic office in Portland, OR to learn more.
The Oregon Clinic Reviews
Dr. McNally and his staff are always personable and professional. He is very knowledgeable and straight forward about what is going to happen in the surgery. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a doctor.
I got a breast reduction with Dr McNally after a friend recommended me to him for gender affirming care. From beginning to end, I felt so safe, affirmed and comfortable. McNally and his entire team are warm & very comforting people in an environment that is typically very anxiety inducing. I’ve been beyond pleased with my results and the level of care I’ve received throughout the last 9 months. I’m sending anyone and everyone I know who needs surgery his way! Thanks Sean!

Can I use insurance to pay for my eyelid surgery?
When loose skin is limiting your vision, your insurance may cover some of your eyelid lift. Please tell Dr. McNally during your consultation if you are considering using your insurance. Someone at The Oregon Clinic will help you get the required paperwork and information to your provider to process your claim. In most cases, you will require a letter from an ophthalmologist or optometrist that an eyelid lift is medically necessary to restore your field of vision.
What are some other benefits of an eyelid lift?
Blepharoplasty not only helps to refresh your face, but it can also give you other benefits. You may find your field of vision expanding once hanging skin on your upper eyelid is removed. It is also easier to apply eye makeup once your upper lid is smooth. Eliminating fine lines, paper-thin skin, puffy bags, and dark circles under your eyes may make your eyes appear brighter and fuller without a lot of makeup.
Will an eyelid lift fix wrinkles and Crow's feet?
Wrinkles on your forehead and the corners of your eyes (Crow's feet) might be better corrected with a brow lift or facelift since the improvements of eyelid surgery are limited to the upper or lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery may be combined with a nonsurgical treatment such as BOTOX®, which can smooth wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. An injectable filler can also be effective because it adds volume to hollow areas for a softer, smoother appearance. During your initial consultation, Dr. McNally will develop your custom treatment plan based on your needs and goals.
