Who Is A Candidate for Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is a popular procedure among women and men who want to improve the appearance and function of their eyelids. Ideal candidates are interested in correcting excess, sagging skin and folds on the top eyelid or puffy skin below the eyelid. You may even experience vision impairment as a result of these issues. Ideal candidates for blepharoplasty are in good overall health, do not smoke, and have realistic expectations for their results. During a private consultation, Dr. McNally will assess your individual needs and goals to determine if eyelid surgery is the right option.
How Is A Blepharoplasty Performed?
At The Oregon Clinic and Réviance, we can offer general anesthesia or IV sedation for your procedure, depending on the type of eyelid surgery being performed and the complexity of the treatment. Blepharoplasty can be carried out on the top eyelid, the bottom, or a combination of both.
- Upper
Upper blepharoplasty assists in diminishing the loose skin that droops over the eye to create a more flattering look. The incision point is often placed along the lash line or crease to trim away skin and tissue. - Lower
Lower eyelid surgery is performed to reduce puffy and bulging skin beneath the lower eyelid. In most cases, an incision is placed just under the lash line to allow access to remove fatty tissue, and the skin is gently lifted to create a softer, flatter look. Sometimes, a nonsurgical laser treatment may be applied to help with discoloration while injectable fillers can be used for more volume and smoothness if desired.
Dr. McNally commonly carries out blepharoplasty to help patients see better while highlighting the natural beauty of their eyes. Contact our cosmetic office in Portland, OR to learn more.
What Should I Expect after A Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty can last up to two hours regardless of whether one or both eyes are treated. After this outpatient surgery, you should plan to rest for about a week. A cold compress can assist in reducing swelling, bruising, and discomfort. The results from eyelid surgery can last a decade or longer, but even though they are long-lasting, the aging process does not stop. To continue to enhance your surgical outcomes, nonsurgical treatments at The Oregon Clinic or Réviance, such as fillers, peels, and lasers, can be added to create a glowing appearance.
The Oregon Clinic Reviews
A real professional. I felt so comfortable when meeting with Dr. McNally and he answered all of my questions with ease. 10/10 experience.
I have wanted/needed a breast reduction for most of my life. I had insecurities about my body but more importantly I experienced chronic back pain. I tried everything before reaching out to Dr. McNally for his opinion. Sean McNally has such a kind yet comical nature; he made me feel heard, reassured and so at ease through everything.. You can tell this comes as a second nature to him. I am still in disbelief with how easy the process was leading up to my surgery and how amazing his team has been throughout my recovery. My new breasts look absolutely beautiful and have already made me feel more comfortable and confident than ever before.

Can I use insurance to pay for my eyelid surgery?
When loose skin is limiting your vision, your insurance may cover some of your eyelid lift. Please tell Dr. McNally during your consultation if you are considering using your insurance. Someone at The Oregon Clinic or Réviance will help you get the required paperwork and information to your provider to process your claim. In most cases, you will require a letter from an ophthalmologist or optometrist that an eyelid lift is medically necessary to restore your field of vision.
What are some other benefits of an eyelid lift?
Blepharoplasty not only helps to refresh your face, but it can also give you other benefits. You may find your field of vision expanding once hanging skin on your upper eyelid is removed. It is also easier to apply eye makeup once your upper lid is smooth. Eliminating fine lines, paper-thin skin, puffy bags, and dark circles under your eyes may make your eyes appear brighter and fuller without a lot of makeup.
Will an eyelid lift fix wrinkles and Crow's feet?
Wrinkles on your forehead and the corners of your eyes (Crow's feet) might be better corrected with a brow lift or facelift since the improvements of eyelid surgery are limited to the upper or lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery may be combined with a nonsurgical treatment such as BOTOX®, which can smooth wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. An injectable filler can also be effective because it adds volume to hollow areas for a softer, smoother appearance. During your initial consultation, Dr. McNally will develop your custom treatment plan based on your needs and goals.
