What Is Fat Grafting?
For patients in Portland, OR who desire to add a bit of volume to their breasts but don't want to use implants, fat grafting may be an ideal solution. This routine procedure performed by Dr. Sean McNally at The Oregon Clinic transfers fat from an area of your body where it isn't desired (such as around the midsection) to the breasts, resulting in a natural and modest increase in breast size. The fat is purified after harvesting to ensure it can safely integrate into the tissues in your breasts. If you are looking for a minor size enhancement without implants, we invite you to reach out to our aesthetic surgery office to learn more about fat transfer breast augmentation.
Who is a Candidate for Fat Grafting?
Most women who are in good health and at a healthy, stable weight can safely and appropriately undergo a fat grafting procedure. For fat grafting to the breast specifically, ideal candidates should desire a subtle size increase that looks and feels more natural compared to implants. Additionally, patients considering a fat grafting procedure should have an adequate amount of excess fat elsewhere on the body to harvest and transfer to the breasts.
What Are the Benefits?
Fat transfers provide our Portland, OR patients with many benefits that help to enhance and rejuvenate your appearance without relying on synthetic fillers. Additional benefits of fat grafting at The Oregon Clinic include:
- Replenishing lost volume and perkiness in the breast
- Removes fat from unwanted areas, like the belly or thighs
- Highlights your natural curves
- Customized to your body and preference
- Minimal scarring and little downtime after the procedure
How Does Fat Grafting Work?
In your first consultation, Dr. McNally will discuss with you where you would like to draw fat from and which areas will be the most suitable for surgery. During the surgery, fat will be removed from the donor sites using a tube called a cannula. The harvested fat will be placed in a centrifuge and spun to concentrate the healthy tissue for transplantation. The fat will then be drawn into a syringe and carefully injected throughout the breasts where it may be massaged to help it settle and create a smooth contour. Multiple injections are often needed. Breast fat grafting can be repeated after you've recovered so you are welcome to call The Oregon Clinic in Portland, OR if you are interested in further augmentations.

Fat Grafting FAQs
How much does fat grafting cost?
The cost of fat grafting will vary greatly based on several factors. In transfers to the breasts or butt, a larger amount of fat is needed, so liposuction is used and a lengthier process is incorporated for fat purification and then inject it accordingly. Smaller treatments, like adding facial volume, require less time and fat. The amount of volume required to achieve your goals will be explained during your consultation with Dr. McNally, along with estimates of cost and payment methods we accept.
Where can I have fat transferred?
Fat can be transferred almost anywhere on your face or body where you want to add volume. Some of the most common areas are the buttocks (typically known as a Brazilian butt lift), breasts, hands, and face. Fat grafting may be combined with breast implants or breast reconstruction to fix imperfections. Age-related volume loss in the face and hands can also be improved with fat grafting, especially in the hollows under the eyes or to add shape to your lips. Tell Dr. McNally in your initial consultation where you would like to add volume so he can develop your personal fat grafting plan.
How long will the results of a fat grafting last?
Fat grafting creates natural-looking results that can be long-lasting with proper care. Dr. McNally employs advanced techniques to graft fat that minimizes reabsorption. However, there is usually a certain amount of the transferred fat that doesn't attach to the new area, so Dr. McNally adds a little more fat. If you would like to enhance or touch-up your appearance after a few years, a second fat grafting treatment may be discussed.
